Updates to Events

We’ve made some updates to the Event content type and display. If you take a look at the Event content type in Drupal at https://drupal.unbc.ca/node/add/event (note that you’ll have to be logged in to see this), you’ll notice that we’ve added in some new fields.

Descriptions on how to use the new fields are included within the form. Training videos and documentation for web editors will be updated in the coming months, but in the meantime feel free to get in touch if you have any questions.

Here’s a preview of what to expect:

Add an Event Cover Image

New field: Event Cover Image

The Event Cover Image will display the image at the top of the Event page display, and also on the Events landing page at www.unbc.ca/events.

This is an Event displaying with a Cover Image (shown at the top), a Video Gallery and an Image Gallery down below.

The Events landing page displays a preview of the Cover Image to the left of the Events listing.

How to resize images without distorting them

You might think that no one will notice when you accidentally stretch my face to look like a pancake, but that’s not true and here’s how to prevent pancake face from happening to your images.

Method 1: Use the corners

When you select an image, there are hot points on all corners and edges of an image. An image can be resized by clicking and dragging those hot points. Make sure that you are only using the corners since using the edges will distort the image.

Dragging the hot points on the corners keeps the image in proportion.

Question: What if I accidentally distort an image? How do I bring it back to its normal proportions?

Answer: In the Image Properties, click the blue padlock so that it’s locked. This will restore its original proportions. (See Method 2 for details)

Please note: Hot points are not available in Chrome, so if Method 1 is for you, use Firefox instead.

Method 2: Adjust the Image properties

a) Select the image, b) Select the Image tool in the WYSIWYG toolbar, c) Make sure that the blue padlock is locked (next to the height and width properties). If the padlock is unlocked, click on it to lock it.

Make sure the padlock is always locked to keep the proportions in tact. If you accidentally distort an image, relock the padlock to restore it to its original proportions.

d) Adjust either the height or width. If you adjust the height, the width will automatically change in order to retain proportions and vice versa.

How to Archive Web Content

In some cases you will no longer need a webpage and will choose to archive it. Currently, in order to prevent outdated Events from showing up, we will have to archive them. In this example we are going to archive an Event, but the steps that follow are the same if you need to archive any other kind of web content.

Here is how to archive an Event:

Here is the Event I would like to archive (“Pie Bonbon Cake Launch Party” at the bottom):

1. In the black menu bar, click “Multiple-Section Content” under the “Content” menu item.

This will take you to the “Content” page:

2. Use the search filters to find the Event you want to archive. To find an Event, choose “Event” under “Type”, and select the Section it belongs to in the “Section” field. Click “Apply” to search.

3. Check the box next to the title of the Event you want to archive.

4. In the “Operations” area above the list of content, in the dropdown selection that says “Choose an operations”, select “Unpublish Content”.

5. Click the “Execute” button.

6. You will see this confirmation screen asking you if you are sure. If you a sure you want to unpublish, click “Confirm”.

7. Check the page where your Event showed up and it will no longer be there:

Here is how to archive a page:

1. In the black menu bar, click “Content”

This will take you to the “Content” page:

2. Use the search fields to find the page you want to archive.

3. Check the box next to the title of the page you want to archive.
