10 Green Destinations at UNBC

 

1. The Green University Centre

The GUC, conveniently located in the Winter Garden, is a central hub of green ideas and action on campus. With a full-time Sustainability Manager, the GUC supports projects and initiatives from students, faculty and staff. Stop by anytime!

2.  The Recycling Room

Located in the basement of the Administration Building, the Recycling Room is where all the recyclables gathered around campus go to be sorted and crushed before they are processed.

3. Recycling Drop-Off

Located between the Residence buildings, this large recycling container can be used by students, faculty and staff.

4. The UNBC Bioenergy Plant

This LEED Platinum-certified building is a crown jewel in sustainability at UNBC. Wood waste produced by the local forestry industry is used to produce heat. Email amanda.drew@unbc.ca with any questions.

5. The PGPIRG Learning Garden

Cared for by PGPIRG volunteers, this garden (located by the Residences) demonstrates different growing techniques.

6. The SGU Dome Greenhouse

Located past Parking Lot C, The Dome is a student-run greenhouse that aims to provide fresh produce for The Thirsty Moose Pub.

7. The UNBeeC Apiary

Located near Parking Lot C, this student-run beeyard is a site of honey production and workshops.

8. The PGPIRG Compost Site

Located next to the Apiary, the PGPIRG Compost Site is where compost collected from around campus is processed. The compost made here is used in gardens around campus.

9. Bike Repair Station

Located outside the Medical School Building, this station has tools to aid in simple fixes of your bicycle

10. PGPIRG Office

Located in the NUGSS building, this office serves at the centre of PGPIRG operations. If you’re interested in volunteering, compost, fair trade coffee, local food, cool books or great conversation, this is the place for you!
